What is the Goal of Meditation?

Sri Chinmoy, like many other meditation teachers before him, teaches that there is an ultimate goal of meditation which is often called Self-Realisation.  Self-Realisation is a state where we are one, consciously, with our own soul or Inner Pilot.  For most of us this state is (as Sri Chinmoy would often say) a ‘far cry’.  If we feel therefore that we don’t really understand what Self-Realisation means at the moment then that doesn’t matter.  The most important thing is to pay attention to our daily meditation practice and to try to be happy in our day-to-day lives.

If you are interested in spirituality then it will be very helpful for you to read some spiritual books; but it isn’t necessary to know much about the theory of the spiritual life in order to learn meditation and start to derive benefit from it.

“In the ordinary life each human being has millions and millions of questions to ask.  In his spiritual life, a day dawns when he feels that there is only one question worth asking: ‘Who am I?’ The answer of answers is: ‘I am not the body, but I am the Inner Pilot.’ ” – Sri Chinmoy
